Government to Pay Trainee Allowances Through CAGD for Timely Payments
President John Dramani Mahama has announced a new system for paying teacher and nursing trainees’ allowances. Instead of delays, the allowances will now be processed through the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD), just like government salaries.
During a gathering at Jubilee Park in Tamale as part of his Thank You Tour of the Northern Region, President Mahama reassured students that this change would ensure regular and timely payments of their stipends.
“With this system in place, students will receive their allowances on time, just like government workers receive their salaries,” he said.
Government Policies and Development Plans
Speaking about key policies in the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, President Mahama highlighted several initiatives:
- Free sanitary pads for schoolgirls – This program aims to support young girls during their menstrual cycles and reduce school absenteeism.
- Completion of the Eastern Corridor Road – The President emphasized the importance of this project for improving transportation and connectivity across the country.
Gratitude and Security Measures
President Mahama thanked the people of the Northern Region for their strong support in the December Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, which helped secure victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, requested that the government consider setting up a military barracks in Yendi. He explained that this would help prevent conflicts in the area and improve security along the Eastern Corridor.
This move by the government aims to address key concerns in education, infrastructure, and security, ensuring better conditions for students and communities.
