Nurses and Midwives Recruitment 2026
The President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, has indicated that the recruitment of health professionals into the public health sector will be carried out using the association’s traditional recruitment structure rather than a “mass and chaotic recruitment” approach.
Speaking at a recent congress organized by the association, Mrs. Ofori-Ampofo explained that the process would be conducted in batches, allowing different cohorts of qualified nurses and midwives to be absorbed gradually based on available financial clearance.
According to her, the association has engaged the Ministry of Health (Ghana) to ensure that the recruitment process remains structured and manageable.
She explained that the approach will prevent the confusion that could arise if several cohorts of health professionals are recruited simultaneously.

Speaking at a recent congress, she explained that despite limited financial clearance, the association prefers a structured, batch-by-batch approach. For example, if the government authorizes recruitment for 2,000 or 5,000 personnel, those numbers should be allocated to specific cohorts, with remaining batches scheduled for later engagement.
This method, she noted, will help authorities properly track which cohorts have been recruited and which are still awaiting placement.
Mrs. Ofori-Ampofo stressed that merging several batches into one recruitment exercise could create administrative challenges and confusion.
If large numbers of graduates from different years are combined into a single process, it would be difficult to manage effectively. She acknowledged that there are currently several cohorts of trained health professionals awaiting employment, including recent graduates.
While recognizing that many trained professionals have waited years for employment, she pointed out that a structured approach remains necessary.
Combining all cohorts at once with limited financial clearance would create further administrative chaos.
The GRNMA leadership says it will continue to engage the Ministry of Health (Ghana) to ensure recruitment is conducted fairly and orderly, with transparency, while gradually absorbing trained nurses and midwives into the country’s health system.
