GES Outstanding Salary Arrears for 2024-Recruited Teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has responded to concerns over outstanding salary arrears involving some teachers recruited in 2024.

In a statement dated September 8, 2026, GES said records available to management indicate that the salaries and arrears due to teachers within the affected group have been processed.

However, the Service acknowledged that some individual cases may still require additional verification and resolution.

The development follows a petition from the Coalition of Unpaid Teachers, representing some teachers recruited in 2024. The concerns focused on unpaid salaries, arrears and related employment issues.

GES establishes dedicated Help Desk

To address unresolved cases, GES has established a dedicated Help Desk at its headquarters. The initiative gives affected teachers a direct channel to check records and address outstanding salary concerns.

Teachers who still have unresolved salary or arrears issues have been encouraged to report to the Help Desk at GES Headquarters, Room 305. They are expected to go with relevant supporting documents.

Officials may need these documents to verify appointment, posting, payroll and payment records.

What should affected teachers do?

Teachers who believe they are still owed money should keep their employment and payment records together.

Useful documents may include

appointment or employment letters

posting documents, staff identification details, payslips bank statements showing salary payments, and official correspondence relating to their employment.

Teachers should also carefully check their payroll information and confirm whether the issue concerns unpaid salary, delayed arrears, incorrect personal details or another administrative matter.

Clear documentation can make verification easier and reduce unnecessary delays.

Remote assistance available

Not every affected teacher may be able to travel to Accra. GES has therefore provided Help Desk hotlines for teachers who cannot visit its headquarters. The numbers are 0201360786 and 0201360789.

Teachers can use these contacts for assistance and guidance on submitting their details remotely.

Why the update matters

Salary arrears can create serious financial pressure for workers, particularly when payments have been delayed. Resolving legitimate payroll concerns can help teachers manage household expenses, loans, rent, education costs and other financial commitments.

The Ministry of Finance also said on September 8 that all 6,300 GES staff recruited in 2024 without financial clearance had been paid, following steps taken to regularise their employment and facilitate payment. This provides context, while individual teachers may still need verification if their records do not reflect the expected payment.

Final advice to affected teachers

Affected teachers should not assume that a processed payment automatically means every individual case has been fully resolved.

Anyone still experiencing a salary or arrears problem should use official GES channels, provide supporting documents and request verification of their records.
