Teachers and Educational Workers Union Declares Indefinite Strike.
The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has declared an indefinite strike, effective Friday, September 20, over the government’s failure to address the long-standing concerns of non-teaching staff, despite having exhausted all laid-down procedures.
The decision has become inevitable due to government and employer institutions persistence failure to address long standing concerns of non-teaching staff despite exhausting all laid-down legal and procedural requirements.
The Demands
Below are the list of demands by Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
The Union demands the immediate signing of the following;
1. TEWU of TUC (Ghana) and all junior staff of public and technical universities.
2. Non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service.
3. Staff of Ghana Library Authority
4. Staff of Meseums and Monument Board
5. Inclusion of payment of GES Non-Teaching staff for Continuous Professional Development Allowance in September 2025.
6. Revolution of promotion grievances in GES, including staff who passed interviews but remained unpaid on the scale. Staff placed on scale but denied official promotion letters. Staff who have received no communication after interviews.
7. The government, especially the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission accountability. The FWSC must conclude amd sign all conditions of services without further delay or excuses.
All employees should note that, it shall constitute an unfair labour practice should any employer prevent or intimidate any of our members; non-teaching staff of GES, Public and Technical Universities, Ghana Library Authority, Staff of Meseums and Monument Board from exercising their lawful right to strike.
