Teacher unions will meet today, Friday, September 25, over the government’s failure to honour its commitment to pay outstanding allowances owed to promoted teachers.

The Education Minister had pledged to settle salary upgrades and promotion placements for nearly 80,000 teachers this month.
However, the September 24 deadline set by the unions has passed without the payments being made.
Speaking to Citi News, Communications Officer of the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana, Kingsley Anyimadu, said the meeting will determine the next course of action.
“We have not received any response from the government. The leadership of these three teacher unions—that is, the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana, formerly CCT Ghana, NAGRAT, and GNAT—will be meeting early in the morning.
“Whatever information we have to give to our members and the good people of Ghana, we will communicate,” he said.
