Who Can Apply? – Eligibility Requirements for 2025

1. You Must Have Served for at Least 3 Years

You need a minimum of three (3) years of continuous, satisfactory service with GES before you can qualify. Once approved, you’ll be bonded to serve for the number of years you spent studying, plus one extra year.

2. Worked in a Deprived Area? You May Qualify Earlier

If you’ve worked in a designated deprived area for at least two (2) years, you may be considered even if you haven’t completed the full three years yet.

3. Non-Professional Graduates Need at Least 1 Year

If you’re a non-professional graduate teacher (without a teaching certificate), you must have served for at least one (1) year before applying to pursue the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).

4. Returning from Secondment? You’ll Need 2 Years First

Staff returning from secondment must serve for two (2) more years before they become eligible again.

5. Reappointed or Re-engaged? Wait 5 Years

If you’ve previously left GES and have now been re-appointed or re-engaged, you need to serve a minimum of five (5) years before applying for Study Leave With Pay.

Step 1: Get the Application Forms

Visit your Metro, Municipal, or District Education Office to pick up the official forms.

Step 2: Fill Out Four (4) Copies

Complete all four copies of the form and make sure you attach certified true copies of your certificates.

Step 3: Submit to the Right Authority

Hand in your completed forms to your:

Regional Director, or

District/Municipal Director, or

Head of Institution (for 2nd Cycle Schools)
